A retail-facing L2 is developing a social layer on top of its DeFi and tokenization stack.
Robinhood Chain was never announced as a memecoin chain.
That does not mean memecoins will not help define it.
That pattern is familiar from other chains: technical rails create the market, but a handful of tokens often capture the retail narrative. In 2024, major outlets described memecoins as a leading risk-on sector, with PEPE, WIF and BONK repeatedly leading market rotations. Robinhood Chain is early enough for its own version of that hierarchy to form.
Robinhood unveiled its Layer 2 in June 2025 with a focus on tokenized real-world and digital assets. The public testnet arrived in February 2026, and mainnet was announced in July 2026.
Technically, the pitch is finance.
Culturally, the network is still blank enough for its earliest communities to decide what people associate with it.
That is where Mumu becomes interesting.
Mumu the Bull comes from 4chan’s /biz/ trading culture, where the character emerged in 2018 as the bullish answer to Bobo the Bear. The meme is old enough that many crypto users recognize the character independently of any current token.
Bringing that kind of preexisting internet identity onto Robinhood Chain creates a stronger cultural fit than launching another mascot with no history.
The project is also doing something uncommon for an early memecoin: building legal infrastructure around the brand. IP Australia lists MUMU as Application 2682039, published and awaiting examination. The project also identifies MUMU THE BULL as Application 2682957. The stated scope covers digital media and NFT-authenticated works, apparel and entertainment branding.
It does not automatically make Mumu a major brand, but it changes the ceiling of what the project can attempt.
A recognizable character with a formal brand identity can move into merchandise, collaborations and content far more naturally than a token whose only asset is a ticker.
For Robinhood Chain, the timing matters.
Every ecosystem eventually develops a first generation of projects people associate with its early days. Those projects do not always remain the largest. They do, however, shape the culture that follows.
Mumu is trying to secure a place in that first generation while bringing eight years of internet history with it.
That combination is hard to manufacture after the fact.
